MNBC President Gets Reinstated but where’s the Report?

ree

(December 16, 2025) Walter Mineault has been reinstated as President of Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) after being suspended nearly 4 months ago by the Executive Committee because of what the Committee described at the time as having “…received complaints about behaviour inconsistent with our policies and the public also brought information forward to the Executive for consideration”.

The decision to reinstate Mineault was announced yesterday in a statement from the MNBC Board of Directors posted on the MNBC website. The brief statement said (in part) “After much consideration and clarification of the MNBC Constitution, the Board determined it needed to take the necessary steps to move forward.”

The announcement did not say whether it was a unanimous decision. We now know from other sources that it was not a unanimous decision to reinstate Mineault and that the 3-member Executive Committee was out-voted by other Board directors. There is also information indicating that following the vote the treasurer and secretary (both appointed members of the Executive Committee) resigned their positions on the Executive. The Vice President is on the Executive Committee by virtue of her elected position, and did not resign.

So what happened to the report on the complaints about Mineault that was being prepared by an independent reviewer? This would be the same report that was to be shared with members of the Métis Nation Governing Assembly (MNGA) and that was to be posted on the MNBC website for everyone to see. Did it just disappear into thin air?

Former MNBC President Clara Morin DalCol who was removed in a coup by a majority of Board members in January 2021 says, “Show us the report, and let the MNBC Citizens decide about Mineault”. She asks, “Why the secrecy? Is there something in the report that citizens shouldn’t know about?" She adds, “Citizens have every right to know what is in that report.”

Ms. Morin DalCol says, “The Board of the day in January 2021 – most of whose members are still on the Board today, certainly had no hesitation in posting a report on the trumped up allegations against me, so why is it different this time?.”

She asks, “Did any of the Board members who voted to reinstate Mineault check with their Community Presidents and their citizens before voting the way they did?”

Ms. Morin DalCol says, “The failure to release the report is an absolute affront to accountability and transparency, and this non-profit organization has the audacity to call itself a government.”

MNBC Citizens in British Columbia who are disgusted by this situation, need to consider joining Red River Métis British Columbia. Ms. Morin DalCol – the President of Red River Métis British Columbia invites true Métis to join our grassroots organization which is focused on improving the lives of our true Métis people in British Columbia. Red River Métis British Columbia works on the issues that matter most to our members through strong and effective advocacy work with governments.
