(July 23, 2026) While many Métis people in British Columbia are struggling to afford food budgets and high gas prices, some MNBC Board members and their followers travelled to Saskatchewan last weekend on MNBC’s dime to attend the Back to Batoche Festival but not a word about the trip was posted on MNBC’s Facebook or website. Now why would that be?
Was it because none of their 300 to 400 staff knows how to post on Facebook or on their website? Surely at least one member of the highly paid communications team knows how to post on Facebook. Or was it because they didn’t want MNBC Citizens to know that they were travelling to Batoche and who they took with them and that the Board of Directors had budgeted over $100,000 back in February to attend the annual festival?
So MNBC tell us who all went to Batoche and how the $105,500 of public funds was spent.
We do know that the Interim President of MNBC Melanie Allard did not go, but the acting Vice-President Dean Gladue did go and proclaimed himself “the official spokesperson for MNBC”. Well now…isn’t that a big whoopdedoo!! We also know he went golfing, as part of his very important duties and posed for pictures. So, MNBC in the interests of transparency (MNBC says that transparency is a Board value), why don’t you tell your 30,000 citizens (at least that’s what MNBC claims) how much of the $105,500 budget was spent on travel, accommodation and per diems for everyone that went to Batoche, including the self-proclaimed “…official spokesperson”.
Regarding Gladue, former President of MNBC Clara Morin DalCol says, “Gladue ran for MNBC President against me back in 2016 and I beat him then, just like I beat his friend Walter Mineault (now an ex-President) in 2020.” She adds, “Maybe I should run against Gladue in 2028 and see how he handles losing again.”
How about this for lack of transparency?
The MNBC Board of Directors approved the 2026/27 annual budget on June 29th but has not posted a single number from the budget, not even the total amount. Even though every dollar in the budget is from tax dollars from either the federal or provincial government, or a government agency, and even though every dollar is intended for Métis people in British Columbia, this group of Board members is keeping it secret. And they have the nerve to claim that “transparency” is a board value. What an absolute joke!!
The budget is probably at least $85 - $90 million dollars, but they are keeping it secret as to how that money is going to be spent, and yet they also have the audacity to call themselves a government. That’s another joke!! Perhaps one of our sources within the organization will send us a copy.
What about that fancy SUV that MNBC bought for its ex-President Walter Mineault?
MNBC bought Mineault a brand-new fancy SUV Chevy Blazer back in March 2025. The total cost was $62,684. The Board gave him the boot in April of this year so now the Board is trying to sell the vehicle, but a local dealership in Dawson Creek only offered them $24,000, plus it needs a new windshield, new tires, and probably an oil change. It sounds like the once fancy vehicle had some major kilometers and wear put on it in just over a year. It was such a brilliant decision to purchase the vehicle and now they’re looking at a nearly $40,000 loss. Yes…what a brilliant decision!! For MNBC a $40,000 loss might be chump change, but for Métis families that’s a lot of money.
