Mineault Is Gone but Questions Remain

(April 19, 2026) Former MNBC President Walter Mineault was finally removed by the MNBC Board of Directors on April 9th for “breaching his fiduciary duty to MNBC and Métis Citizens” but a number of questions still remain for the other 11 members of the Board.

  1. Why did it take so long to get rid of Mineault? He was suspended back in August by the Executive Committee, and then reinstated on December 18th through a motion moved by Region 3 Director Dean Gladue, the Board then received an independent investigator’s report on January 15th saying that he should be dismissed, followed by a motion overwhelmingly approved by community presidents at the MNGA on March 1st asking the Board to get rid of him, but yet it took almost another month and a half before this Board actually dismissed him. Why did it take so long?

  2. Why hasn’t the investigator’s report been made public? What is in the report that this Board doesn’t think MNBC Citizens should know? Such a report was made public in the past when former MNBC President Clara Morin DalCol was removed in a coup by the Board on trumped up allegations – a majority of the Board members from then are still on the Board today. Why is Mineault being treated differently than she was?

  3. Why hasn’t the Board revealed the details of the vote on April 9th – which Board members voted to keep him and which Board members voted to get rid of him?

  4. Did Mineault receive any severance payout when he was let go?

  5. Is Mineault still receiving any benefits (i.e. medical & dental) paid for by MNBC?

  6. Did Mineault incur any legal bills before he was let go that are being paid by MNBC? If so, how much?

  7. What has happened to the fancy 2025 SUV that MNBC bought for him last year?

  8. What has happened to the proposed engagement of a “fully independent, third party auditor…” to conduct a comprehensive review of MNBC’s financial controls, wage escalations and spending going back three years beginning in 2022/23? This was proposed on November 25th, 2025 at an in-camera session of the Board? So what has happened to that?

  9. Where are the Board minutes from February 5th? Why haven’t they been posted? They were approved at a Board meeting on February 26th and the minutes from February 26th have been posted, but February 5th Board meeting minutes haven’t been? Why not?

  10. What did Mineault accomplish during his time as President of MNBC? No self-government for MNBC! Higher Board salaries! Lots more staff hired! And plenty of travel on MNBC’s dime!

Former MNBC President Clara Morin DalCol says, “Now that Mineault is gone, the decisions of the rest of the Board need to be scrutinized because they have been there since he was elected President in 2024, and some Board members were there before that when he was the Vice-President.”

She says, “This Board needs to explain why their salaries have kept on increasing, why they have trouble posting Treasurer’s Reports that are either late or fail to fully disclose the state of MNBC finances, why the number of staff keeps increasing, why two senior staff - the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer went on leave last November, why the MNBC Board has failed to post a full listing of all of the organization’s property purchases since 2021 including purchase prices and who was paid the sales commissions, why a property agent is listing available rental units in two 8-plex buildings in Hudson’s Hope owned by MNBC as long-term Executive rental suites without a single mention of Métis housing, even though both buildings were purchased with federal government sourced housing funds by MNBC specifically for Métis housing.”

Ms. Morin DalCol says, “Each one of the remaining 11 members of this Board needs to remember that the millions of dollars MNBC is spending each year is not their own money. It is the Métis people’s money, and this Board is accountable for every single dollar. When I signed the six sub-accords of funding with the federal government when I was still President of MNBC, those agreements resulted in tens of millions of dollars each year flowing to MNBC, and the money was always intended for Métis people here in British Columbia – not for higher Board salaries, not for more staff at a bloated head office, and not for more consultants.”

Ms. Morin DalCol as President of Red River Métis British Columbia says MNBC may have money today, but given the need for increased accountability by government, and the demand by Métis people for increased transparency, that may not always be the case in the future.
