(July 26, 2023) Clara Morin Dal Col has congratulated the new Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Gary Anandasangaree on his appointment to Cabinet today by Prime Minister Trudeau. Minister Anandasangaree replaces the Hon. Marc Miller who was moved to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

Crown-Indigenous Relations is the key federal government department responsible for continuing to build relationships between the government of Canada with Métis, First Nations and Inuit Peoples.

BC Métis Leader Clara Morin Dal Col said, “I want to congratulate Minister Anandasangaree on his appointment as Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations. A strong positive relationship with the Minister is essential for progress to be made on s.35 rights for Métis people in British Columbia and I look forward to that happening in the future.”

Ms. Morin Dal Col, who recently announced that she will be seeking the Presidency of Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) in the 2024 election, said, “I have had the opportunity in the past to meet with Minister Anandasangaree in his past role as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and because of that role he understands the importance of s.35 rights to our Métis people.”

She said, “My constructive approach with federal ministers has worked well in the past contributing to the signing of the historic Canada-Métis Nation Accord and 7 sub-accords which have brought tens of millions of dollars to MNBC. The current MNBC Board has not delivered a single sub-accord.”

Minister Anandasangaree represents the riding of Scarborough-Rouge Park in the House of Commons. He was first elected in 2015.
