(March 1, 2026) The Métis Nation Governing Assembly (MNGA) has voted to advise the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) Board of Directors to remove President Walter Mineault.
After spending more than 9 hours behind closed doors over two days dealing with a confidential report into complaints about Mineault, the community president members of the MNGA voted overwhelmingly 28 to 7 to advise the Board to remove him. The 12 MNBC Board Directors themselves, who all are members of the MNGA, took no part in the vote which was held behind closed doors.
Under the MNBC Constitution, only the Board of Directors can vote to remove a member of the Board – in this case – the President. There is no indication when the Board will meet to consider the advice from the MNGA, but it is expected to happen soon.
The review of the investigator’s report was moved in-camera by a majority vote of the 48 plus members of the MNGA on February 28th. Six of the community presidents voted against going in-camera to review the report. In taking the report in-camera only MNGA members and a small handful of members of MNBC related bodies who were present were allowed to be part of the in-camera meeting. The live-streaming for up to 30,000 MNBC Citizens was shut down preventing them from knowing what was in the report.
The former President of MNBC Clara Morin DalCol, while applauding the decision of the community presidents at the MNGA to request Mineault’s removal, again called for the investigator’s report to be made public.
“Why the two different rules,” the former President asks? If it was okay to post the “confidential” report on her back in 2021 on trumped up allegations which were politically motivated when the Board removed her as President, why is it not okay to post the report on Mineault? Eight members of the current 12 member MNBC Board, were on the Board in 2021 when she was removed. If the report on Mineault is not posted for all 30,000 MNBC citizens to read, then it is a blatant disregard of the Board’s moral obligations for openness and transparency in governance.
She says, “Based on precedent, the 30,000 MNBC Citizens have every right to see the report on Mineault.”
Ms. Morin DalCol says, “Let’s see if the Board of Directors follows the advice of the community presidents and removes Mineault.”
