Some Shocking Expense Numbers from MNBC

ree

(September 19, 2025) Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) spent a whopping $34.1 million on salaries, wages & benefits last year, including $12.6 million on 123 employees who were all paid more than $75,000 each. The numbers are contained in a Financial Report and Audited Financial Statement prepared for the Annual General Meeting which begins today in Richmond.

The only staff salary and remuneration that has been revealed is that of the Chief Executive Officer, and it was revealed in a separate report posted earlier this year showing that her salary and remuneration last year was $290,528 plus a $700 per month vehicle allowance. MNBC has not revealed how many actual employees they have, but it is estimated to be 300 to 400 employees. That compares to about 90 employees just five years ago.

Here are some other shocking expense numbers gleaned from the reports:

  • Consulting & Professional Services – more than $3.3 million spent

    • MNBC does not reveal who the consultants and professionals are

    • MNBC does not reveal what they were each paid and what services they provided

    • MNBC does not reveal whether any of the contracts were based on a competitive tendering process

  • Legal Fees – more than $1 million spent

    • MNBC does not provide any information on what the legal expenses were nor do they reveal the names of the law firms

  • Travel Expenses – more than $3.9 million spent

    • MNBC does not provide any other details in the report about what travel expenses are included in the expenses. We know from an earlier report that Board expenses alone last year totaled more than $300,000 which would suggest that staff and others ran up the travel bill by more than $3.6 million

MNBC Citizens attending the AGM have the right to ask any questions about any of the expenses.
