(August 20, 2025) The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) suspended President Walter Mineault on August 18, 2025 after “…the Executive Committee received complaints about behaviour inconsistent with our policies and the public also brought information forward to the Executive for consideration.” These are words taken directly from a statement issued on behalf of the Executive Committee.
The statement goes on to say that “As a result, we had a duty to act in the best interests of MNBC and our Citizens” and they add that the decision “...protects the integrity and reputation of our Nation.”
Mineault was elected President of MNBC in September 2024. In the last report MNBC posted on Board annual expenditures to the end of March of this year, the following numbers are revealed:
President’s salary and remuneration $180,199 (this salary and other Board salaries were increased on April 1st of this year by a vote of the Board itself but we don’t know by how much the salaries were increased)
Per diems paid out for the President’s position $14,010 (Tax Free)
Travel & Accommodation for the President $55,800
Purchase of a brand-new SUV for the President in March 2025 $62,684
Grand Total = $312,693*
*A portion of the costs were for the previous President who stepped down in September 2024
Eleven Questions
Why the secrecy about the complaints of behaviour inconsistent with MNBC policies?
Why the secrecy about the information brought forward from the public?
Given that the statement from the Committee alluded to the Committee receiving complaints about Mineault’s behaviour “over the course of Mr. Mineault’s tenure” and given that he was elected in September 2024, why did the Committee not take action sooner? Why wait 10 months before acting?
How many MNBC Board members knew about these complaints and when?
Given that Mineault has been suspended, has he turned in the keys to the brand-new SUV that MNBC bought for him in March? Where is the vehicle now?
Has Mineault turned in his MNBC credit card?
Has Mineault turned in his MNBC cell phone?
Has Mineault turned in his MNBC laptop?
Has Mineault returned all of his MNBC files to MNBC?
If Mineault has retained a lawyer, who is paying that cost?
Exactly what is the actual extent of Mineault’s suspension?
