(June 1, 2021) Métis Nation British Columbia President Clara Morin Dal Col expresses her heart-felt condolences to all the families affected following the recent discovery of the remains of 215 children at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. “What a horrific experience to go through,” said President Morin Dal Col. She said, “My heart bleeds for all families whose children were forced to go to residential school and the continued trauma that it has caused.”
President Morin Dal Col said, “The history of residential schools in our country is such a terrible scar on Canada and their painful impact on Indigenous peoples must never be forgotten.”
As our National President Clément Chartier said, “Once again, we call on the federal government to ensure that all Canadians are made aware of the horrors of the residential school system on Indigenous peoples and that every attempt is made to assist Indigenous peoples and communities to bring closure to these horrific events, including the need to bring closure to the remaining questions surrounding the locations of other unmarked graves.”
