(November 11, 2025) It has been 80 years since the end of the 2nd World War and 107 years since the end of World War 1. In those two wars alone more than 106,000 Canadians lost their lives, while another 227,000 men and women were wounded. Métis, First Nations and Inuit men and women joined other Canadians to fight in the world wars to help protect democracy and our freedoms. There have also been other conflicts in different parts of the world since then, in which Canadian soldiers, including our Métis have stepped up to serve and have also lost their lives.
The President of Red River Métis British Columbia Clara Morin DalCol says, “We must not take our democracy and our freedom for granted after so many thousands of men and women have given their lives to protect what we have today.”
Ms. Morin DalCol says, “Today is a day to remember all those brave Canadian men and women, including our Métis who have given their lives in the world wars and other conflicts. We shall never forget the ultimate price that they paid and we offer our special thanks to the tens of thousands of Canadians who continue to serve today.”
