MNBC Board Salaries and Travel use up more than a million dollars in the last 9 months of 2025

(February 26, 2026) Between board salaries and travel and accommodation for the members of the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) Board, more than a million dollars of public funds were used up between April 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025. That’s an increase of almost $100,000 over the same period in 2024, and almost $500,000 more than what it was just 4 years ago.

The latest numbers were posted by MNBC this week, as required by the MNGA Act.

The report also showed that the current President Walter Mineault who was suspended in mid-August and then re-instated in mid-December drew a salary and reimbursement of $132,388 for the 9 months, including for the time during which he was suspended, plus he incurred travel and accommodation expenses of $23,954, plus picked up more than $7000 in per diems (which are tax free), plus got a vehicle allowance of $6643. This last number is questionable given that MNBC bought him a fancy new SUV in March last year.

MNBC’s highly paid CEO Colette Trudeau picked up $205,692 in salary and reimbursement for the 9 months even though she was not in attendance at Board meetings in November and December (in addition to missing a special Board meeting in January). In the 9 months she also incurred travel and accommodation costs of $25,530 plus per diems of $4369. She also picks up a $700 per month vehicle allowance.

Former MNBC President Clara Morin DalCol calls the more the million dollars spent on salaries and travel for the Board “obscene and disgusting” given that many Métis citizens in British Columbia are struggling to try and afford the cost of groceries.

Ms. Morin DalCol says, “How do the MNBC Board members sleep at night knowing that they have been pulling in big bucks and travelling all over while many Métis Citizens are wondering when the good times are going to begin to happen for them.”

She says, “Maybe at the MNGA taking place over the next two days, a community President might just ask the MNBC Board some tough questions about where their priorities are at when it comes to Métis people because we know what their priorities are when it comes to their own salaries and travel.”

As President of Red River Métis British Columbia, Ms. Morin DalCol invites true Métis in this province who are tired of MNBC and the way they operate to join a real grassroots organization which is focused on improving the lives of our true Métis people in British Columbia. We work on the issues that matter most to our members through strong and effective advocacy work with the federal and provincial governments.

Red River Métis British Columbia has an elected Board of Directors all of whom reside right here in British Columbia. You can apply to join Red River Métis British Columbia even if you have a membership with another Métis organization.
