MNBC Board afraid to hold in-person Annual General Meeting

(June 18, 2021) The Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) Board of Directors has chosen to hold another virtual annual general meeting instead of an in-person meeting because the group of 9 are afraid to be confronted by MNBC Citizens over issues of the President’s suspension and Citizenship issues. President Clara Morin Dal Col said, “The recent announcement by the Board that the 2021 MNBC AGM will be held virtually in September will very much limit the ability of our Citizens to directly ask the Board members unscreened questions about the decisions that they have made since I was suspended in January”.

President Morin Dal Col said, “The Citizens have every right to be able to ask impromptu and unscreened questions of the Board members in a real annual general meeting instead of a virtual meeting because this Board has to be held accountable for their actions.” She said, “Using Covid-19 regulations as the reason for another virtual meeting is just a convenient excuse because the AGM can be postponed for an appropriate period of time until the regulations allow for a physical gathering later this year.”

The President also questioned the statement issued by MNBC on June 11, 2021 claiming (in part) that it was impossible for an in-person meeting to be held because ‘The funding MNBC received to hold the 2021 AGM in-person was re-allocated to MNBC Chartered Communities. With the health restrictions expected to be in place in September 2021, it was decided by the [MNBC Board of Directors] that this funding was better utilized in the hands of our Communities and Citizens.’

President Morin Dal Col called that reason absolutely ridiculous and ludicrous stating, ”These are separate budget streams. MNBC receives a specific budget allocation for governance activities, including the AGM, as is the case for Covid-19 funding for the communities. I know this for a fact because I worked with the national Métis leadership to secure these funds for MNBC from the federal government. As a result of my efforts working with other Métis leaders at the national level, MNBC has received hundreds of thousands of dollars for communities to address the challenges of Covid-19. They need to send it out to those communities needing help.”

Regarding the virtual AGM, the President said, “Some members of this Board are afraid to be asked tough questions by our Citizens in an in-person AGM regarding my wrongful suspension, Métis Citizenship, including the Métis Nation Ontario issue, the Board’s alliance with the Tri-Council, Board salaries and a multitude of other issues. Our Citizens have a right to ask any questions of the Board."

President Morin Dal Col urged the Board to reconsider their decision of June 11th regarding the AGM in September.
