Congratulations to new Ministers responsible for Indigenous matters

ree

(May 13, 2025) Clara Morin DalCol is congratulating the new Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and the new Minister of Indigenous Services Canada who have both been sworn into their new roles today as members of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Cabinet.

Rebecca Alty (Member of Parliament from Northwest Territories) is the new Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, and Mandy Gull-Masty (Member of Parliament from Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou) is the new Minister of Indigenous Services Canada.

Crown-Indigenous Relations is the key federal government department responsible for continuing to build relationships between the government of Canada with Métis, First Nations and Inuit peoples, while Indigenous Services Canada is responsible for policies and services relating to Indigenous peoples, including all Métis. The two federal departments were established in 2019.

Ms. Morin DalCol, President of Red River Métis British Columbia says, “I want to congratulate both Ministers on their appointments to Cabinet and look forward to building a strong and positive relationship with them on behalf of Métis people in British Columbia.”

She says, “In the process of that working relationship, I want them to be aware that the tens of millions of dollars that have been provided to Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) annually by previous federal governments are being consumed in large amounts to pay for high salaries for the Board, a bloated over-staffed head office, consultants and land purchases with little accountability and transparency. Those dollars need to be used for what they are intended for – the direct benefit of the Métis people in British Columbia.”

Ms. Morin Dal Col, as a former President of MNBC who signed off on seven (7) funding agreements worth tens of millions of dollars for MNBC with previous federal Ministers says, “I know what issues I will be flagging with the new Ministers to help ensure true Métis people at the grassroots are the real beneficiaries of the funds flowing from the federal government.”
