(March 21, 2025) Red River Métis British Columbia is here for the grassroots true Métis in British Columbia and will question the actions and decisions of existing Métis organizations when we think the interests of Métis people in British Columbia will be affected or impacted.
Red River Métis British Columbia is not a Facebook group, but rather it is a registered nonprofit society in British Columbia, and has been registered since 2021, long before any Facebook group came along and started using a similar name.
Not only do we closely watch the actions and decisions of existing Métis organizations, but we keep a close eye on policy announcements and positions of federal and provincial governments and others regarding any issues that could impact Métis people here in British Columbia, and then we let our members know. We have the ability and the right to raise any issue with any government and any politician at any time on behalf of Métis people. It’s called advocacy. That’s what a true grassroots Métis organization is all about.
Unlike other Métis organizations, we do not make big salaries, we don’t have our travel expenses covered and we don’t have hundreds of paid staff. We are all volunteers, paying out of our own pockets for any travel and have zero paid staff, but do not underestimate our ability to make a difference for true Métis people. Our leadership and volunteers have years of experience in dealing with governments and politicians and have a record of signed agreements to prove it. We are totally committed to looking after the needs and protecting who we are as true Métis for future generations.
The President of Red River Métis British Columbia Clara Morin DalCol says, “I am pleased with the official launch of our organization earlier this month and we have received a good response. Out of all the positive feedback we have received, I did note one negative comment about how it would ‘harm all the forward movements’ that a Métis entity based in Manitoba has made in British Columbia, to which I say - oh really?”
“Share with us - what are these ‘forward movements’ and tell us who you have been negotiating with and under what mandate”, Ms. Morin DalCol asks.
President Morin DalCol says, “The great thing about Red River Métis British Columbia is that any true Métis residing in British Columbia who meets our criteria, including the national definition of Métis can apply to join as a member of our Métis organization which is based right here in British Columbia. People are free to join any organization they wish. That’s just one of the wonderful benefits of living in Canada. You can apply to join us by clicking on https://www.presidentclara.com/get-involved
